Cool Visual Basic

Visual Voice Pro(VVP) is a well-built telephony OCX. You can answer incoming calls and place outbound calls, play and record voice messages, speak information such as dates, numbers, and characters, retrieve touch-tone digits , utilize CallerID, transfer calls, use analog and digital (T1 and E1) lines, and so forth.

A built in utility, Virtual Phone, allows you to test your application without actually having the hardware. It’s very well done, and a nice addition to the package.

The samples include a fax-on-demand app, a order status app, and a voice mail app. The sample applications are, for the most part, ready to be put into use in a real project. They are all very well commented. However, they are all data-storage and retrivial type systems implemented using the Access JET database. Granted, there’s not much else you can do, but some diversity would be better.

All in all, VVP 4 seems pertfect for a VB(or VC++) telephony project.

Pros : Good flexibility. Great samples.
Cons: Some parts of the OLE interface could be labeled clearer.

Performance : 5 stars
Usefulness : 4.8 stars(vaires depending on project.)
Interface: 5 stars
Help: 5 stars

Verdict : 5 A buy for VB telephony programmers
