Product Review: Castalia Code Stylist 3.0
Code Stylist re-writes your code to conform to your specs. While it’s not essential, Code Stylist is definitely useful.
The best part of Code Stylist is it’s flexibility. You can easily choose exactly how you want your code to appear. I did get a strange error message on my AMD 200 Win95, but it did not seem to affect anything. Code Stylist is definitely great for re-writing demo or sample code. I’d recommend it to anyone writing code for public consumption. (Actually, I use it for all of my code.) Indentation controls are very strong in Code Stylist. You can choose if you want to split multiple Dims on a single line up on multiple lines, which is a feature I’ve been looking for in a program for years. It did come with a built-in spell checker, which checked all of my Declare statements. Argh! Unfortunately, the built-in spell checker does not support custom dictionaries. Which is too bad, because it can be setup to check either string literals, comments, or both. The charts feature is nice, but it needs some work to be truly useful. It’s helpful to know the comments/code ratio, to tell if the programmer is commenting as much as he/she should.
Pros : Great for writing nice code.
Performance : 4 stars
